Overview

La Comarcal (The District) is a young winery located in the mountainous village of Venta del Moro in the Valencia D.O. Founded in 2017, the small project is run by two of eastern Spain's most talented viticultors: Javi Revert and Victor Marqués. Both bring an incredible amount of experience, talent, and passion to their work in exalting the diversity of their native Valencia. Their goal is to make new expressions of wines sourced from the old mountain vineyards of indigenous Valencian varietals. The duo farm their vineyards utilizing (certified) organic viticulture and native yeasts with a focus on regenerative agriculture to deliver wines with clear translation and representation of both their sites and Valencia.

La Comarcal's Delmoro Tinto comes from vineyards between 15 and 50 years old. The Garnacha (60%) comes from a four-hectare, single-vineyard called Guindal planted in 1987; bush-trained, old-vine Syrah makes up the remainder of the blend. After a rigorous selection in the vineyard, each variety is hand-harvested and vinified separately with native yeasts and 30% whole cluster in stainless steel. After fermentation, the wines are aged for eight months: the Garnacha in the same tanks and the Syrah in concrete. The two varietals are then blended and rested before a very light filtration, but no fining, before bottling.

The Delmoro Tinto reveals a brilliant ruby red in the glass offering a hypnotic bouquet of ripe red berry fruits mixed with hints of dried herbs, leather and spice. The palate is awash with flavors of red cherry, strawberry and raspberry complemented by notes of bittersweet chocolate and balsamic. The mid-palate is buoyed by fresh acidity and fine tannins that lead to a wonderfully elegant finish. Enjoy with any red meat or game dishes... try venison medallions with whipped potatoes and root vegetables or grilled skirt steak drizzled with chimichurri.
