Salem Wine Company is a second label produced by Evening Land Vineyards. The intention behind the project is to make wines that are approachable both in terms of flavor profile and price point. There are no shortcuts or compromises in production however, as all the fruit for their 2023 Eola Amity Hills Pinot Noir comes from Evening Land's historic estate vineyard, Seven Springs Vineyard. Similarly, the fruit is handled with the same care in the winery as wines that are bottled under the Evening Land label.
Seven Springs is farmed biodynamically by the Evening Land team, and the fruit for this cuvee comes primarily from east facing blocks. Though it is over 90% Pinot Noir, there is a touch of Gamay included, giving it a bit of fruitful exuberance and generosity.
Cranberry-ruby in the glass, this is a wine of lifted fruit and flowers; Morello cherry, blood orange, hibiscus and fresh raspberry come to mind. Fresh, light-bodied, a flash of spice on the palate adds zip to what is an immensely drinkable wine with a polished finish. There is no hiding the energy of the cool climate Eola-Amity Hills here.
