In Southwestern France, along the River Lot, is the wine region of Cahors in the Quercy district. Here is the original home of the Malbec grape, called "Cot." From this place the grape traveled far and wide, ending up in the high desert of Argentina. But it really never left. This family estate is comprised of 27 hectares of organically farmed vineyards, of which 90% are planted with Malbec. The next generation of the family took over the estate in the 1990’s and banned the use of all herbicides and chemicals. Their driving quest is one of balance, ecological balance in the vineyards as well as balance in the wines they make. Pascal is a legend in the region. His attention to detail and depth of experience permits him to prevent wines with very minimal intervention that are clean and reflect their terroir transparently and accurately.
Cedric is born from a 30-hectare iconic estate, tended to by legendary winemaker Pascal Verhaeghe, his certified organic estate is nestled in the heart of the Lot Valley. The vines are located on the stony third terrace, imparting a light, more mineral driven style. Cedric shows a deep purply-blue color in the glass, the aromas are warm & welcoming with some dusty, earthy, briary blueberry perfume with hints of violet & spices. The palate is medium in body with crunchy blue & red fruits – the supple & discreet tannins lend shape to a blue fruit driven finish that leaves a spicy hint of pepper behind.
