So… here’s the secret… “Maison la Berthaude” is a label done for our friend Craig Baker at Misa Imports. It is produced by Domaine Roger Perrin under the guidance of 5th generation winemaker/owner Xavier Rolin. This bottling is the same as the Domaine’s “Les Galets de la Berthaude,” an homage to the district of Chateauneuf where the vineyard is located (Berthaude) and the large round “pudding stones” (“galets”) that make the region so special.
A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre, raised in stainless steel and concrete, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Maison La Berthaude Tradition reveals a healthy ruby/purple color as well as complex, traditional notes of blackberries, peppery garrigue, new saddle leather, and dried flowers. With medium to full-bodied richness, notable purity of fruit, and silky tannins, it’s a charming, balanced, outstanding Châteauneuf du Pape in the making. Classic Chateauneuf at 1990's pricing!
