Arca Nova Vinho Verde

Overview

Arca Nova Vino Verde is made by Quinta das Arcas, a small estate owned and operated by the Monteiro family. In 1985 Esteve Montiero decided to turn his successful family business of grape growing into winemaking! Today the Monteiro family is one of the top viticulturists and wine producers in the Minho Region! Dedicating themselves to producing quality grapes and wines with a focus on sustainability and modern wine making. All of their grapes are estate grown between their 4 estates in the Vinho Verde and Alentejo regions. Their vines are trellised so the clusters are growing about 6 feet above the ground to allow the wind to remove the humidity. Located along the Atlantic coast in northern Portugal, Vinho Verde lies between the city of Oporto and the northern border with Spain. Vinho Verde translates to ‘green wine’, referring to the climate of the region which is lush and green thanks to high precipitation and influence from the Atlantic Ocean. Stylistically, all Vinho Verdes are light, clean, fresh, and citrusy. Effervescence is added to Vinho Verde wines to increase their shelf life.

This wine is made from 50% Loureiro, 40% Arinto and 10% Treixadura using sustainable farming of vineyards ranging from 6 to 30 years old at elevations from 300 to 1000 feet.

Arca Nova is spot on Vinho Verde & a near perfect example of this warm weather treat. Nearly translucent in color with fresh, youthful, floral, citrus aromas with hints of salty, rocky minerals. Intensely bright on the palate with lemon-lime, crushed green apple, summer melon & wet stone flavors. The zip of light spritz on the finish & the lower abv (10.5% in this case) make this so crushable & usually lead you to a second bottle.
