Natália Jessa, and her husband, winemaker Luis Seabra, are responsible for some of Portugal’s most interesting, authentic and affordable wines. She began her career in wine as a buyer for a major grocery store chain in the E.U. and spent years traveling all throughout Europe meeting winemakers and making key connections in the trade. Natália is on a mission to showcase the finest wines from Portugal that represent the best value. She says it herself in the most adorable broken Portu/Polish English accent: “Drink it, don’t overthink it.” And these wines over deliver in a BIG way.
The 2020 Prunus Tinto is a blend of local varieties, Jaen (80%), Tinta Roriz (10%), Alfrocheiro Preto (5%) and Touriga Nacional (5%), aged in well-used 225-liter French and Portuguese oak barrels. Violets, plums, mulberry, blackberries and warm spices all jump from the glass on the nose leading to a fleshy & rich palate of black cherry and raspberry. Creamy, cocoa tones finish the palate that’s nicely framed by subtle oak shadings & dusty tannins.
