Blackbird Vineyards was founded in 2003 by Michael Polenske. It was his love for the wines of Pomerol that drove him to purchase a small Merlot vineyard that was part of Trefethen Vineyards in The Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. Blackbird grew to 10 acres, 7 of which planted to Bordeaux varieties. In 2019, John & Julia Hinshaw bought the majority interest, while Michael moved on to focus on his art galleries. Renowned winemaker, Aaron Pott, has made the wines since 2006.
The 2024 vintage of ‘Dissonance’ is a departure from the previous releases – it’s the first that is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, stepping away from the use of upwards of 30% Semillon in the blend. The result is an intensely bright & airy perfume of white flowers, peach skin, apricot & key lime. The palate is ripe, racy & clean with more peach, honeyed pear, ruby red grapefruit & sea salt notes that lead to a long & electric finish. It is beautiful by itself but is best paired with some sunshine & good friends.
